What Do AI Ad Generators Actually Cost? The Pricing Models Compared

The headline prices are not comparable, and that is the whole problem. Two tools at "$29/month" can differ by a factor of ten in what you actually get, because they are not selling the same unit.

Here are the four models in use, what each one costs you in practice, and which one suits how you actually work.

The four pricing models

Per generation, or per credit. You buy a bucket of credits and each ad, image or video spends some. Cheap to start, and the cost scales exactly with how much you use it. The catch is that credits are usually consumed by attempts, not by keepers — a batch of eight variants where you like two has still spent eight.

Flat monthly, unlimited output. One price, generate as much as you want. Predictable, and the better deal for anyone iterating, because iteration is the point of generating ads. Usually gated so that the expensive outputs — video especially — are capped or reserved for higher tiers.

Per seat. Priced per user. Sensible for agencies, poor value for a solo merchant, since you are paying for a collaboration feature you will not use.

Percentage of ad spend. Common in managed services rather than tools. Aligns incentives in theory; in practice it means the bill grows exactly when you are already spending most.

What actually drives the cost underneath

Worth knowing, because it explains why tools price the way they do:

So a tool offering unlimited everything including video, cheaply, is either capping something it has not told you about or is not going to be around long.

The questions that actually decide the bill

Do failed or discarded generations cost me? The single biggest hidden variable. Ask directly.

Is video capped, and at what? "Includes AI video" can mean two clips a month.

What happens when I hit the limit? Blocked until next month, or charged overage? Both are defensible; not knowing is not.

Is there a free tier or a free trial, and which? These are different. A free tier means an ongoing allowance. A free trial means full access for a period and then a charge. Tools use the words loosely.

Can I cancel in one click? On Shopify, cancellation should be a button inside the app. If it requires an email to support, factor that in.

Where AdCreator sits

For transparency, since this page is on our site — our own prices, current as of this page's date:

Flat monthly with video capped, which is the third model above. Discarded generations do not cost you anything on the image tiers because they are not metered. There is a genuine 14-day free trial on the paid plans: you approve it through Shopify, nothing is charged until day 15, and cancelling is one button in the app.

We are not the cheapest and do not try to be. The thing we would point at is that the free ad comes before any payment screen, so you can judge the output before deciding.

A note on comparing to "free" tools

Several ad-copy generators are genuinely free, and for copy alone they are a reasonable place to start. The difference is usually what you get back: text you still have to lay out, versus a finished image file at platform dimensions. If you have a designer or the patience to do it yourself, free copy plus your own layout is a real option and worth trying before you pay anyone.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a genuinely free AI ad generator?

For ad copy, yes — several, including our own free headline tool, which needs no signup. For finished image creatives at platform sizes, free options are rarer and usually watermarked or limited to a handful a month.

Why is AI video so much more expensive than images?

Because it is many images plus temporal consistency plus, usually, audio. The compute is not comparable, and any tool offering it uncapped at a low price is capping something it has not put on the pricing page.

Do unused credits roll over?

Usually not. On per-credit pricing this is worth checking, because it changes the effective price if your usage is uneven month to month.

What is the cheapest way to test whether AI ads work for my store?

Use a free tier or free ad from two or three tools on the same product and compare the output before paying anything. It costs an afternoon and tells you more than any comparison page, this one included.

Do I get charged during a Shopify free trial?

Not if it is a real trial. Shopify shows the charge for approval when you start it, and bills at the end of the trial period, not the start. We wrote up how Shopify app billing and trials actually work separately, because the approval screen confuses a lot of merchants.
